The best burgers in Stockholm

This post is long overdue. Then again, I wanted to make sure I had enough experience at joints that serve burgers in order to compile this list with some amount of credibility.

I personally believe it's hard to find a good burger here. The burger patties are often frozen and griddle/pan fried, prepared in ways that burgers should never be prepared.

But when you do come upon that place that has a good burger it can, with a single bite, drop you back 20 years, to beach barbecues and youthful innocence.

These are the places in Stockholm that make a fantastic burger, in order of my personal favorites:

  1. Grill Ruby - A pricey burger, but the best one you'll eat in Stockholm. An American chef grills them over an open flame of imported Kingsford charcoal. Are. You. Kidding. Me.
  2. Bara Vi - Served on homemade bread, Bara Vi's burger is charred on the outside and tender and rare on the inside.
  3. Wirströms - A great, big burger with all the fixins, and a fantastic Spaten to help wash it down, while listening to live music is a great choice in Gamla Stan.
  4. Akkurat - A big burger chased down with one of their huge selection of beers, is perfectly topped off with a glass of one of their many fine whiskeys.

I will be updating this list as I try more places, but if you're looking for a good burger these are definitely good places to start.

  • Thanks for the additional recommendation. Garlic N Shots it is for the next burger.
I would say that of these four places, now that I have had the pleasure of trying them all:
    1. Akkurat
    2. Wirströms
    3. Grill Ruby
    4. Bara Vi
  • i'm going to have to rework my list following recent developments in the Burger Battles of Stockholm. apparently service is inconsistent enough across all these places that they are likely to shift regularly.

we'll definitely add Garlic n' Shots. and i keep hearing that we need to consider Hard Rock and Friday's though, since they're chains, I think we'll need to exclude them. thoughts?

You should add the price range as well since price is a factor for most of us ;) I mean the Bishops Arms bacon n cheese burger at vasagatan is 150 SEK, which is the same range as the garlic n shots (GnS) burger. Between those two GnS is a clear winner, but the Bishops Burger is still really good since it's central and they have an excellent range of beers as well ;)
  • Good point. Though I think we're *just* rating the burger as a standalone dinner item. We need to come up with a list of bars with the best beers as well. Thanks Mattias!

You can't have a list of burger joints and miss Garlic n Shots!! They make an awesome burger, especially if you visit them on a regular night. When they're busy the special bread tend to run out and then the burgers are only great ;)
  • Grill Ruby nosedived for me. I went back on Friday for a burger with friends and they didn't cook them medium like we asked. It was good, but I would put it at 3 or 4 now.
  • Nosedove?
  • lol. not sure which it would be. sorry that you were disappointed. When we went two weeks ago, they did cook mine perfectly. It just was missing some extra pop.
  • AW at Bara Vi this week. It will be my first chance to complete the list. I will report back with my rankings.
